MingMing - Amigurumi #6

Tonight's project was the duck pattern.  Isn't he cute?
This was requested by my son this morning.  He's growing up so fast.  He already knows what he wants.

Lavander Cupcake with sprinkles

My 5th venture into amigurumi.  I am now doing much better on the loops.  They are relatively even.  The shape is now good.  Stitching/ embroidering the eyes, lips and assembly of the parts are now much much better.  Practice does make perfect.  I am now confident enough to put sprinkles on him.

Coffee or Tea?

This project is from Amigurumi World, Seriously Cute Crochet by Ana Paula Rimoli as all of my first amis.  I am having a fun time creating these even though my fingers sometimes get cramped from doing them.

It really helps if you have a good hook to work with.  I was having a hard time with the first hook I bought (Susan Bates 4mm).  Holding it was not very comfortable.  Last Saturday I decided to splurge a bit (I also had a coupon so that took the sting out of paying over $6.00 for it) and got a Clover brand hook with a wider handle.  It's soo much more comfy and easier to work with.

And I also got some $1.00 mini punches for my bento collection.

Here's my new baby. I labored through the night to finish it last night. I just couldn't sleep until I had him finished. I was finally able to get an embroidery needle (or a big needle with a big hole) and got to attach the appendages properly. I still need work on this. But I will continue trying.

Cupcake V2

Here's my second try. I did much better this time. I kept on wondering why my first one was out of shape and I looked at various photos and re-read the book.

I finally learned that I was doing my stitches all wrong. I was going through the back loop all along. That's why it was all out of shape! This is the reason why I never got into crocheting...

I'm happy that I finally got it though.  I'm glad my son appreciates both versions of my cupcake and he still said "kyuuut" to both.  :D

Finished Cupcake Amigurumi#1

Here's the finished cupcake. It's not great. My stitches are uneven and I still have to work on assembly stitching.  Decided not to do any more embellishing since it's not that good.

I have to remember to pay more attention to the stitch count.  I think I did more than what was needed for the base of the cupcake.  That's why it's so wide.

Well.. try, try again....

This is my first attempt at making amigurumi. My son is enchanted with the toy he was given (see earlier post) and I decided to try my hand in it too.

I got my supplies from Michael's. I think I spent over an hour just in the knitting/ crochet section coz I couldn't decide which yarn to get... I didn't KNOW what to get.

The girl there didn't know anything about knitting either but she was very nice and tried to help as much as she can. She said that was the only Michael's store that didn't have someone who was proficient in knitting/ crochet.

I knew there were lots and lots of kinds of yarn since they had tons of display. It was all about choices. I found the
book on amigurumi later which I should have looked for first. With this book it was now easier for me to get the proper needle and yarn. It was now just a matter of what color to choose.

Being the frugal me, I of course had to use a coupon.  Too bad coupons were not accepted for books... aww shucks.  The book is much cheaper online but with shipping costs it almost, almost amounts to the same thing.  Besides I wanted it NOW!

Walmart was just across the street and I decided to compare prices.  I was so relieved that the yarns were only a few cents cheaper here and there were a lot fewer choices.  The book and hook that I needed was not available.  Sigh of relief there.  I didn't have to go back to Michael's to return anything.

I am now starting the icing part of the cupcake.  Below is how far I've come.  I will update once I am done.
